 KiMudo

Guardian WongKiMudo is a hybrid martial art that incorporates the best elements from several different disciplines into a complete and powerful system:  the kicking and striking techniques of Tae Kwon Do and Karate, the throwing and grappling techniques of Judo and Jiu Jitsu, the joint manipulation techniques of Hapkido and the wielding of traditional Martial Arts Weapons.  KiMudo is designed to be a practical, versatile & highly effective means of self-defense from close combat to longer-range situations.

The literal translation of the word KiMudo means harnessing "energy to follow the warrior's path or way of life."  Throughout his Black Belt career, Grandmaster Craig Hutson has played an active leadership role in the origination, development and evolution of this dynamic discipline.  He has been a dedicated practitioner since August of 1973, and has taught martial arts continuously from 1976 on.  Grandmaster Hutson opened his own Academy back in 2005, which continues to attract students from far and wide.

Hapkido

Although Hapkido is comprised of throws, strikes, dynamic kicks and weaponry, this discipline is best known for joint locks and the art of deflection.  Hapkido is very popular with the military and law enforcement personnel because it focuses on practical self-defense, where precision prevails over brute strength.  Students are taught how to properly move and subdue an attacker by targeting an enemy's weak spots.

Three important concepts guide Hapkido training--

Nonresistance, or Hwa;

Circular Motion, or Won; and the

Water Principle, or Yu.

Upon becoming adept in these essential areas, Hapkido practitioners gain increasing control over many types of physical confrontations.  Hapkido is an extremely useful skill to learn for people of all ages and sizes.

Judo/Jiu Jitsu

Ippon Seoi NageThe origin and development of the martial art of Judo also demonstrates the superiority of technique over strength.  It was established in Japan in 1882 by Professor Jigoro Kano.  He utilized moves from the various Jiu Jitsu schools which had been the dominant form of Japanese fighting for hundreds of years, and refined, created and finally established the modern combative sport of Judo.

Judo is based on three basic steps:

1.     Kuzushi--unbalancing;

2.     Tsukuri--fitting in; and

3.     Kake--execution.

Given the fact that FBI statistics show that 90% of all fights end up on the ground, the demanding discipline of Judo is an excellent choice for students seeking to add to their self-defense skills and become adept at throwing, falling and grappling.  Practicing Judo regularly is a fantastic way to enhance fitness too.
